Successful teaching requires a combination of both academic and
interpersonal skills. Although interpersonal skills do not
ensure the success of a teacher, the lack of them will ensure failure,
regardless of how academically capable the teacher is.
The Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) specifies
that institutions preparing educators have the responsibility to
certify the knowledge and skills of its teacher candidates. To
that end, a committee composed of representatives from departments
across the College of Education & Human Development developed
the Fitness to Teach Policy. See below for links to the policy
and all related forms as well as a video that provides an overview
of the FTT policy.
