Communities in Schools Recognizes The Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology as “Agency Partner of the Year”
(June 9, 2008) — Communities in Schools of San Antonio (CIS-SA) recently recognized The Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology and the College of Education and Human Development as “Agency Partner of the Year.” This is CIS-SA’s highest honor which recognizes their community partners for their dedication and service to the most at-risk children in San Antonio.
The Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology has been providing professional development and supervision to the Communities in School’s staff and interns for years. Graduate students in the Counseling program worked with case mangers to provide services to students on school campuses throughout the San Antonio area. These counseling students also add support, knowledge and enthusiasm to each school site therefore enhancing their programs.
The College was also recognized for its support of the Communities in School’s volunteer and mentor program. COEHD undergraduate students served in numerous schools in the Edgewood Independent School District. This year 72 students participated as volunteers, tutors, and mentors during the Spring 2008 semester.
“There are plans to expand the program next year to involve 150 undergraduate students in CIS programs and service additional school districts where CIS-SA programs are in place,” said Ron Thomas, Director of School Partnerships for COEHD.
