Belinda Villarreal-Nelson
Scholarship
Major Rafael Villarreal, USAF (ret) (UTSA BBA '76, MBA '78) and his wife, Maria Luisa Villarreal, were at UTSA 1604 campus January 19th and presented a $10,000 check to Dr. Betty Merchant, Dean of College of Education and Human Development to establish an endowed scholarship in the COEHD in honor of their late daughter, Belinda Villarreal-Nelson. Mrs. Nelson taught English and Speech for ten years at Crockett High School in Austin until she was diagnosed with leukemia and passed away in 1996.  She had one son, named Benjamin. Major Villarreal and his wife created the endowed scholarship to keep Belinda’s name and memory alive with our students, now and in the future. We are deeply appreciative of their generosity.
