About:  Health Professions at UTSA

If you are wanting to enter certain health careers such as nursing, medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or dentistry then you will need to attend a health professions school. 

UTSA is not a health professions school.  However, many students attend the university to complete the pre-requisite coursework that will enable them to apply for admission to a health profession school.

While completing their pre-requisites, some students will also decide to declare a major. This allows the student to not only take their pre-requisite courses, but also keeps them on track toward obtaining a degree. This is important in the event that they are not accepted into a health professions school.

The majors in the College of Education and Human Development often selected by student wanting to enter a health professions school are Kinesiology (Exercise Science Track) and Health (Community Health Track).

If you are planning to pursue a health profession career that requires you to attend a health professions school, you need to meet with an advisor in the UTSA Health Professions Office as soon as possible in your freshmen year.
