TExES-ExCET State Exam "Approval To Test"

Practice Exams

It is recommended that all Teacher Certification students begin taking TExES Practice Exams once they have been admitted to the UTSA Certification Program.

Students with an area of certification listed under “ExCET” will not be required to take a content Practice Exam.

Students with an area of certification listed under “TExES” will be required to take a content Practice Exam, if one is available.

All students seeking Teacher Certification will be required to take a Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) Practice Exam that matches their certification grade level.

 

Reviews

New review sessions are being developed for various content areas and levels. Check the TExES website - http://coehd.utsa.edu/Students/TExAS/Home_TExES.htm and Student Services Newsletter for availability.

Students seeking certification in EC-4 Generalist and EC-4 Bilingual Generalist are required to attend the Generalist review.

All Teacher Certification students are required to attend one PPR Review Session.

"Approval to test"

All Eligibility Forms for “approval to test” must be submitted to the TExES Office no later than 3 days prior to an ETS scheduled registration deadline.

The TExES Coordinator will determine if the student has met the UTSA requirements for “approval to test”. The student will be approved through the SBEC online approval process.

Students will be eligible to register for one state exam after the Practice Exam and Review Session requirements have been met, when applicable.

Students may attend a review and take a Practice exam in either order. It is the students’ responsibility to plan in advance and determine the best review and Practice exam date to attend.

Students may only register for exams that correspond to their area of certification through UTSA.

Once a student is certified, meaning they have completed all UTSA course requirements, passed the required state exams, and applied for certification with SBEC, they may register for additional certification exams. The route to certification becomes “by exam”.
