The COEHD is the leading provider of educators in the San
Antonio area and one of the largest in the State of Texas.
The COEHD is ranked 3rd in the United States as producer
of teacher education degrees for Hispanics in the United
States.
The COEHD currently has a pass rate for Teacher Certification
Exams at 97% (one of the highest pass rates in the State
of Texas).
The COEHD continues to enhance and expand strong partnerships
with San Antonio's inner-city schools .
The Academy for Teacher Excellence, under the COEHD, is
a federally funded program under Title V which is a model
for increasing the number of Latino students pursuing teacher
certification and for preparing all teachers for linguistically
and culturally diverse populations.
Of the 11 Doctoral programs at UTSA, the COEHD offers
three: Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, Ph.D. in Culture,
Literacy, and Language, and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education
and Supervision. A fourth doctoral program in Curriculum
and Instruction is in the works. The COEHD also offers B.A.,
B.S., and M.A. degrees.
In only the last few years, the COEHD has been responsible
for securing more than $8 million in external funding for
programs and research.
The COEHD is responsible for innovative research and grants
in areas of professional development, technology enhancement,
health, school readiness, and bi-national/bicultural issues,
to name a few.
The COEHD administers the Downtown Counseling Center and
the Plaza de Lectura, located at UTSA’s downtown campus.
