GRADUATE (PROFESSIONAL) CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS GRADUATE (PROFESSIONAL) CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS are available for certification as a Master Reading Teacher, School Counselor, Reading Specialist, Principal, and Superintendent. THE MASTER READING TEACHER Certificate requires 15 hours of graduate-level course work. Additional requirements include a valid Texas teacher certificate and three (3) years of classroom teaching experience. SCHOOL COUNSELOR A masters' degree and two (2) years of teaching experience are required for the School Counselor certificate. Certification as a READING SPECIALIST requires a 24-hour program. Additional requirements include two years of teaching experience and a Master's degree. A Master's degree may be earned in coordination with this program by completing the specified 36 semester hours of coursework. PRINCIPAL certification requires 27 hours of Educational Leadership courses. Two years of teaching experience is also required in order to obtain this certification. A Master's degree and the professional certificate may be earned by completing 36 hours of course work (this includes the 27 hours of concentration hours). The SUPERINTENDENT program requires certification as Principal, 12 hours of superintendency coursework, and a three-semester-hour internship. |
